Prion Disease is a rare advanced neurodegenerative disorder or zoonotic disease that affects humans and animals. It is caused by incorrect folding of proteins (PrP) in the brain and damages brain tissues. This damage causes tiny holes to develop in the brain and makes it look like a sponge.

Cases of prion are rarely found in humans. Most commonly observed forms of prion that affect the nervous system are Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE).
