Gastrointestinal Radiofrequency Ablation Systems Market: Introduction
- Radiofrequency ablation (also known as RFA or Barrx) is a technique that allows for a controlled superficial burn of the gastrointestinal tract lining to eliminate abnormal tissue. Most commonly, it is used to treat a precancerous condition called “dysplastic Barrett’s esophagus” and less often, early stage esophageal cancer.
- Patients with dysplastic Barrett’s esophagus are at high risk of developing esophageal cancer. RFA to eliminate the dysplastic tissue is often curative and at the very least, significantly diminishes the chance of later progression to cancer.
- Once dysplastic tissue is found, RFA is used to eliminate the regular Barrett’s tissue so that it does not become dysplastic. RFA is occasionally used to treat gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) and radiation proctopathy.
Key Drivers, Restrains, and Opportunities of Global Gastrointestinal Radiofrequency Ablation Systems Market
- Surge in critical medical intervention is expected to drive the global gastrointestinal radiofrequency ablation systems market. Advancement in medical technology is likely to propel the global market in the next few years.

North America to Capture Major Share of Global Gastrointestinal Radiofrequency Ablation Systems Market
- North America is anticipated to account for major share of the global gastrointestinal radiofrequency ablation systems market owing to increase in usage of gastrointestinal radiofrequency ablation, increase adoption of non-invasive surgical technique, and rise in prevalence of chronic disease
- The gastrointestinal radiofrequency ablation systems market in Asia Pacific is expected to grow at a rapid pace during the forecast period owing to rise in awareness about gastrointestinal radiofrequency ablation
- Middle East & Africa held the smallest share of the global radiofrequency ablation system market in 2020. Poor economies and low per capita income, particularly in Africa, hamper the growth of the market in the region. The Middle East is likely to account for major share of the market due to increase in government funding in health care and presence of developed economies such as the UAE, Kuwait, and Dubai.
