Sulfuryl Fluoride Market

Sulfuryl Fluoride Market - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends and Forecast 2016 - 2024

Sulfuryl Fluoride Market: Overview

Sulfuryl fluoride is an inorganic compound generally present in the gaseous form. It can be condensed using pressure so as to convert it into liquid form for storage. It is highly resistant to hydrolysis even at 150 degrees C. Sulfuryl fluoride can be synthesized using various chemical reactions. The most popular method used in the synthesis involves the use of the potassium fluorosulfite. Sulfuryl fluoride was developed by The Dow Chemical Company for fumigation application. It is widely known as a structural fumigant that can be used to control termites. The chemical was specifically developed to be used in warm-weather conditions.

It can be also used as fumigant to control powderpest beetles, bedbugs, bark beetles and rodents. During application of sulfuryl fluoride, building structure is closed and sealed to avoid any leakage. These structures are exposed with sulfuryl fluoride for 2 to 72 hours depending on the labor and time constraints. This process is generally followed by aeration period of 6 to 8 hours. Due to its properties to get volatized when pressure is released, sulfuryl fluoride is packed in white cylinder and is released under a vapor pressure through tubing from white cylinder.

Sulfuryl Fluoride Market: Growth Enablers and Restraints

Growing demand for sulfuryl fluoride from agriculture end-use industry is expected to drive the market. The demand for sulfuryl fluoride is majorly dominated by its usage in agriculture. Considering, the growth in agricultural demand in current decade the requirement for sulfuryl fluoride is expected to increase. The market for insecticides in general is dominated by developed regions. However, with escalating demand for better protection from insects in developing economies, the demand for sulfuryl fluoride is expected to be increased in Asia Pacific region in next six years.

Sulfuryl fluoride is less toxic as compared to methyl bromide and hence it is used as a substitute in various applications. However, sulfuryl fluoride is a toxic gas and must be handled by trained professionals. This fact limits the use of sulfuryl fluoride by general consumers which might affect the market negatively. Sulfuryl fluoride is acutely toxic to humans and exposure to high concentration gas can lead to serious damage to human health. Environmental regulatory bodies have set the exposure limits for the sulfuryl fluoride. Currently, sulfuryl fluoride –based products are mostly available in America and hence market entry into other geographies is expected to provide immense opportunities for the players in the market in the near future.

Sulfuryl Fluoride Market: Region-wise Outlook

North America emerged as the largest market for sulfuryl fluoride in terms of consumption and production. Major players have manufacturing facility with strong distribution channel in the region. Europe is expected to adopt sulfuryl fluoride-based products in order to reduce the consumption of methyl bromide. As methyl bromide could contribute to increased greenhouse effect. Launching sulfuryl fluoride-based products in Asia Pacific would provide opportunities to the players.

Sulfuryl Fluoride Market: Key Players

Global sulfuryl fluoride market is highly consolidated with major players having presence across the value chain. Sulfuryl fluoride is currently marketed by three manufacturers with different brand names. For instance, The Dow Chemical Company markets with the brand name of Vikane and by Ensystex with brand name Zythor. The Dow Chemical Company has recently started marketing of sulfuryl fluoride under the brand name of ProFume as a post-harvest fumigant for grains, dry fruits and nuts. Drexel Chemical Company launched a sulfuryl fluoride product as a brand name Master Fume. Key players in Sulfuryl fluoride market include The Dow Chemical Company, Drexel Chemical Company, and Ensystex.
