Mefenamic Acid Market

Mefenamic Acid Market - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends, and Forecast 2021-2031

COVID-19 Impact on Global Mefenamic Acid Market

  • On January 30, 2020, the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak a public health emergency of international concern. Originating in China, the virus has spread to at least 214 countries and territories around the world.
  • Several governments and private sector businesses are operating at a limited capacity or have ceased operations completely due to recent events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic
  • The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to disturbance in the supply chain due to the global lockdown in several countries. The spread of coronavirus has led to a fall in demand for chemical intermediates due to uncertainty in the global economy and capital markets.
  • Growth of the mefenamic acid market has been hampered due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown of several non-essential activities and manufacturing facilities in most countries. However, the market is anticipated to expand at a healthy pace during the forecast period due to the acceptance of new normal conditions and recovery of various end-use industries in many countries.

Key Drivers and Restraints of Mefenamic Acid Market

  • Demand for mefenamic acid is expected to increase at a significant pace during the forecast period due to the increase in prevalence of dysmenorrhea, and rise in level of awareness and growth in concern about dysmenorrhea among women in developed countries. Most women tend to have dysmenorrhea during puberty, typically within four to five years of the first menstrual cycle. Prostaglandins are chemicals produced in the lining of the uterus during menstruation. These prostaglandins trigger muscle contractions in the uterus, which cause discomfort and reduce the flow of blood and oxygen to the uterus. Mefenamic acid helps reduce menstrual pain.
  • The side effects of mefenamic acid are negatively affecting the mefenamic acid market. Mefenamic acid causes side effects including nausea, tiredness, itching, upper stomach pain, flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, body aches), severe skin redness, itching, and peeling.

Mefenamic Acid Market: Application Segment

  • Based on application, the global mefenamic acid market can be divided into hospitals, drug stores, and others
  • The hospital segment dominates the mefenamic acid market
  • Mefenamic acid is available in the form of capsule. Mefenamic acid capsules are a member of the fenamates group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
  • In hospitals, it is used to treat mild to moderate pain and dysmenorrhea

North America to Hold Leading Share of Global Mefenamic Acid Market

  • In terms of region, the mefenamic acid market can be divided into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa
  • North America is expected to hold major share of the global mefenamic acid market, followed by Asia Pacific and Europe, during the forecast period
  • As per a study published in the Indian Journal of Research, about US$ 2 Bn or 600 million working hours are lost annually in the U.S. due to incapacitating dysmenorrhea. Furthermore, women who attend classes or work have been shown to have lower work output or scores during their dysmenorrhea. Increase in research and development for innovative drugs and the presence of well-established health care infrastructure in the U.S. are fuelling the market in North America.
