Aviation HVAC Market

Aviation HVAC Market - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends, and Forecast, 2022-2031

Aviation HVAC Market: Introduction

  • Aviation HVAC systems, also called as environmental control systems, are a network of equipment designed for ventilation, heating, cooling, humidity/contamination control, and pressurization in the occupied compartments, cargo compartments, and electronic equipment bays. Air conditioning is provided in aircraft for the comfort of passengers and maintaining quality of cargo.
  • HVAC units in aircraft are used to provide cold air and hot air to the aircraft while parked on the ground or during flight. The same conditioned air is also used for cabin pressurization in the airplane.

Key Drivers of Aviation HVAC Market

  • Consistent economic and demographic growth, worldwide, has led to a rise in airline activity. According to the statistics of International Civil Aviation Organization, there are more than 400 scheduled departures of commercial passenger airplanes per hour across the globe. India Directorate General of Civil Aviation stated that in April 2022, air passenger traffic witnessed 36% year-on-year growth. Airline operators are planning to expand their aircraft fleets to cater this growing number of passengers. Emirates, one of the largest premium airline operator, expanded its fleet of passenger aircrafts by six more in 2021. HVAC systems are integral part of airplanes, as they keep a convenient temperature for passengers in relation to ambient circumstances. Moreover, when the conditioned air is sealed inside the aircraft’s cabin, it produces pressurization of the aircraft, which allows passengers to be physically comfortable and avoid hypoxia whenever the aircraft is operating at high altitude. Thus, consistent increase in fleet of operational aircraft amidst rising air passenger traffic is propelling the global aviation HVAC market.
  • Increase in globalization owing to the economic growth of countries and creation of new markets has led to growth of trade at a rapid pace. Consequently, airfreight has inflated and air freight carriers, such as SF Airlines, are expanding their freighter fleets. Temperature controlled logistics is imperative for pharmaceutical products, perishable goods, and other such temperature sensitive goods. Air freight is the most popular form of temperature controlled transport, as this method can help alleviate time considerations, geographical obstacles, and a lack of infrastructure. Therefore, growing adoption of airway mode for transportation of normal cargo and temperature sensitive cargo has fueled the aviation HVAC market across the globe.

Restrains of Aviation HVAC Market

  • The complexity in designing an efficient HAVC system for aircraft is a major challenge, as the aviation industry is under high pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the recent outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic created challenges in the design of conventional HVAC systems of aircraft. This pandemic has forced airline operators and HAVC system suppliers to modify their existing designs of HVAC systems to reduce the spread of virus and contaminants.

North America and Europe to Hold Significant Share of Global Aviation HVAC Market

  • North America and Europe held significant share of the global aviation HVAC market. The U.S. has the largest fleet of aircraft, exceeding 8,750. Other countries such as Canada, the U.K., and Germany are also some of the leading countries with total operational aircraft fleet. This strong presence of civil and military aircraft fleets in the North America and Europe is driving their share in the global aviation HVAC market.
