4-tert-amylphenol Market Introduction

  • 4-tert-amylphenol or para-tertiary amylphenol (PTAP) is used in the manufacture of phenolic resins, which are employed in paints, coating, varnishes, and printing ink resins. It is used as germicide and fumigant; and intermediate for organic mercury germicides, pesticides, and chemicals in rubber and petroleum industries.
  • Phenols, such as 4-tert-amylphenol do not behave as organic alcohols, as one might guess from the presence of a hydroxyl(-OH) group in their structure. Instead, they act as weak organic acids. They are much weaker than carboxylic acids. Flammable gas is generated and the heat of the reaction may ignite the gas. 4-tert-amylphenol is toxic by ingestion and can be absorbed through the skin.
