Thermoform Packaging Market: Overview 

Thermoforming is the process of subjecting a thermoplastic to heat so that it is softened and can be stretched and held in a single position until it cools down and solidifies to attain a shape and size that is required. Thermoform packaging is a technique of manufacturing strong packaging products by heating plastic in a mold such that the plastic acquires the shape of the mold in which it has been heated. There are many types of thermoform packaging. Some of the well-known products are clamshells, blister packages, shipping containers, and food trays.

A variety of thermoplastic materials can be used in this process, including the following: acrylics (PMMA), polystyrene (PS), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), cellulose acetate, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). 

There are three main methods for subjecting a thermoplastic sheet so that it acquires a particular conformation: vacuum forming, pressure forming, and mechanical forming. For the manufacturing of disposable or rigid packaging, thin-gauge (less than 0.060 inch) sheets are used, whereas for permanent surfaces on shower enclosures, automobiles, and electronic equipment, thick-gauge (greater than 0.120 inch) sheets are generally used. 

Thermoform packing is used widely for the packing of essential commodities such as food, medicines, medical devices, chemicals, and electronic appliances.
