Magnesium oxide is also called magnesia. Magnesium oxide is a white hygroscopic solid mineral that occurs naturally as periclase and is a source of magnesium. Owing to its small particle size and large specific surface area, magnesium oxide nanopowder exhibits optical, electrical, magnetic and chemical properties different from bulk material and shows high hardness, high purity and high melting point. Magnesium oxide nanopowder is white, odorless, and non-toxic (when used in small quantity). Due to its unique properties, it finds use in furnace linings, electronics, catalytic applications, ceramics, oil products (fuel additives), coatings, animal feed additives, and in many other fields. 

Magnesium oxide nanopowder is a natural fire retardant and is hence used for chemical fiber and plastics trade. It is also used as a high-temperature dehydrating agent used for the production of silicon steel sheet, high-grade ceramic material, electronic industry material, adhesive and as an additive in chemical raw materials. Nanopowder finds application in high-frequency magnetic-rod antenna, magnetic device fillers, insulating material fillers and various carriers used in radio industry. Other applications of magnesium oxide nanopowder are as refractory fiber and refractory material, magnetite-chrome brick, filler for refractory coating, refractory and insulating instrument, electricity, cable, optical material, material for steel-smelting furnace and other high- temperature furnaces, heating material and ceramic base plate. It also possesses good insulating properties and is hence used as electric insulating material for making crucible, smelter, insulated conduit (tubular component), electrode bar and electrode sheet. It is also a good fuel additive, cleaner, antistatic agent and corrosion inhibitor. Growth in the magnesium oxide nanopowder market is due to demand from refractories where it is used as furnace linings. Demand also originates from construction & ceramics and precision industries such as aerospace, advanced electronics and others.
