Ethylene and vinyl acetate can be copolymerized implementing these technologies to produce different grades of ethylene vinyl acetate with varying vinyl acetate content. Increase in vinyl acetate content helps to improve the properties and performance efficiency of the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer. Higher vinyl acetate content lowers the crystallinity of ethylene vinyl acetate, owing to increased molecular weight. This, in turn, improves transparency, gloss, clarity, and flexibility of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.

Depending on the weight percentage of the vinyl acetate in the polymer, ethylene vinyl acetate can be classified into three product segments: high EVA, low EVA, and very low EVA. High EVA contains 20% to 40% vinyl acetate, while low EVA has 10% to 20% of vinyl acetate. On the other hand, very low EVA contains a negligible amount of vinyl acetate, ranging from 1% to 10%.

Films was the largest application segment of the EVA market volume in 2014. Films based on EVA are used widely in flexible packaging of foods, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products.
